Talking Fish urges Senator Brown to spend time fixing current problems instead of rehashing old complaints

Today, the Gloucester Times published an op-ed by Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts in which the Senator charges NOAA actions and regulations with destroying fishermen’s livelihoods. Just yesterday, Talking Fish posted an opinion piece by John Sackton of Seafoodnews.com in which he decried the way in which some New England government representatives and fishing industry participants have become mired in NOAA conspiracy theories instead of working together to find real solutions for problems in New England’s fisheries. In our opinion, Senator Brown’s recent op-ed places him squarely in this group. Instead of spending time rehashing old complaints about NOAA regulation and sector management, Talking Fish urges the Senator and those who share his views to focus on finding ways to make the current system, which is already meeting conservation goals and leading to increased revenues, work better for all Massachusetts fishermen.
