More MSA Anniversary – Certificate of Public Ownership of America’s Fish Stocks

This ad from the Pew Environment Group makes clear what all New Englanders know is true – American fish stocks are a public resource. The stock certificate in the ad reads, “As secured by the Magnuson-Stevens Act, this certifies that America’s Taxpayers are the owners of 528 ocean fish stocks having a combined economic value of $163,000,000,000 per annum and yielding 1,900,000 jobs.” That’s a lot of value! Fish stocks in New England are rebuilding thanks to the MSA, and in order for them to continue on this upward trajectory, it’s important that we support sound science, good management measures, and a strong Magnuson-Stevens Act.
