Fish Talk in the News – Thursday, October 13

From time to time, we like to keep you updated on the other news sources that have been “talking fish.” Here’s a quick look at some recent stories and websites that we think might interest readers:

    • Earlier this week, Senators Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire introduced a bill that would terminate the sector management system if more than 15 percent of participating fishermen lost their jobs in the first year (which ended April 30, 2011). The bill also requires a two-thirds vote by fishermen before any future fishery management systems are approved. Read more from The Boston Globe.
    • reported that Target is teaming up with the nonprofit FishWise to sell only sustainable and traceable seafood in its more than 1,760 stores by 2015. What do you think? Will you be more likely to shop for seafood at Target if you know their products are responsibly sourced?
