From time to time, we like to keep you updated on the other news sources that have been “talking fish.” Here’s a quick look at some recent stories and websites that we think might interest TalkingFish.org readers:
- Discoveries of seafood fraud have been all over the news lately. WBUR show Radio Boston did a piece on recent investigations with guests including Alex Hay, the first interviewee of our new “Ask an Expert” feature. Today, Alex’s brother, Mac Hay, blogged about how important it is to have a close, trusting relationship with the people who supply your seafood – and how the seafood fraud story focuses on regulations instead of this relationship. (You can also read this view in their Letter to the Editor in the Boston Globe.)
- A Seacoast Online article published last weekend provides yet another description of fishermen’s opinions on the groundfish sector system.
- If you’re a regular TalkingFish.org reader, you know all about the plight of the river herring. Earlier this week, NOAA announced that it will consider whether listing river herring under the Endangered Species Act is warranted – a big step towards getting protection for these important fish.
